Winter is fast approaching and that means it’s the start of a new wrestling season.
There’s a lot that goes into a wrestling season but what does the team do and think of before it begins? Well, the wrestlers prepare.
First, there is lifting and conditioning. Wrestlers condition their bodies to specific body weights and conditions. It’s an important part of what Mason McCarty (senior wrestler) calls, “ the grind.”
The individual wrestlers have personal goals and things that push them where they want to get for the season. Mason McCarty explained that he strives to go to State, and the thing that motivates him is that he loves working to get better with his team for the entirety of the season.
On getting a title or championship, McCarty replied, “the EBC has a lot of great teams and it would be a tough task to be able to win a championship but in the past, we have done very well in tournaments.”
Finally, I asked if he felt if there would be underclassmen that would be stepping up and taking charge and he answered, “our senior class numbers are thinning out, but we have a lot of underclassmen who have the skill, so I feel that there will be hole needing filled.”
From asking Mason about how he views this season, it can be assumed that this upcoming season will be a strong one, and the team will push as far as they can. Be sure to support your Wrestling Dukes.
