October 19th saw the varsity football team defeat West Branch 28-20. The game - which was preceded by senior night festivities - was a treat for the packed home crowd.
The game began with West Branch throwing a pick 6 right in the hands of Andrew Carr. This was a shock to everyone in the crowd, being that it was the first play from the West Branch offense.
Marlington’s offense stayed relatively quiet until the second half, as the scored stayed 7-0 until a pass to Markavien Mason broke the silence and opened the offense up for the Dukes.
West Branch fought back towards the end of the game, scoring with just a few minutes left to make the score 28-20, but failed to recover an onside kick. Blane Himmelheber’s recovery solidified the victory for the team.
The event as a whole turned out to be more than just football for the Marlington Community. Many people, most notably a good majority of the student section, sported a t-shirt advocating for the passing of Issue 3 on the ballot. The support was somewhat overwhelming to a point, and it shows that the community cares about their current electoral landscape.
The Dukes will prepare to face off against Alliance at Mount Union Stadium in their last game of the regular season. Be sure to head to the game and support!
