Varsity Football Defeats Minerva In Lopsided Win

The varsity football team contributed to MHS’s homecoming weekend by defeating Minerva in a one-sided 49-13 win. The game featured an expected performance from the team, as nearly the entire community felt the talent levels displayed by both teams were extremely contrasting. In saying this, the boys did what they had to do and secured the win in the school’s important weekend.

Performance-wise, it was a typical night for the Dukes all-around. Most notably, Blane Himmelheber rushed for his prototypical yardage along with racking up a few touchdowns.

Arguably the most exciting moment of the game came on a play that favored Minerva rather than the Dukes. While the score was still tied 0-0 very early in the game, Marlington seemed to score off of a lateral pass to Travis Wainuskis, but was taken back due to a forward lateral being called. The team would go on to score directly after this however; kicking off a night of constant presence in the endzone.

The team will travel to face Canton South next week on October 12th, and they hope to keep their winning ways up for yet another week. The game should be a more exciting affair than what was seen verses Minerva, but with the way things are going right now, the boys will keep their confidence up regardless of their opponent.
