On Tuesday, October 1st, Marlington’s Lady Dukes took the EBC title against the Salem Quakers, with a home advantage. Leading the way to the victory of three sets to none was Sophomore Jillian Fellers (18 serving points, 6 kills, and 2 aces), Senior Emma Dine (23 assists, 3 digs, and 1 ace), and Senior Maggie Fellers (12 kills, 2 digs, and 1 ace).
During the first set, points went back and forth. Both teams were tense, knowing the fate of the game. The first time out of the match was called by Salem while the score was 19-12, Marlington. Struggling to finish the set, Marlington ended 25-17.
Even though Salem attempted to keep up, Marlington ended the second set with a thirteen point lead. Salem held up their side of the fight making the score 14-12, in the third set. The Lady Dukes were able to get the ball back when it was shanked on Salem’s side. Marlington’s student section boosted morale for their team chanting, “EBC! EBC! EBC!”. The last point for the night was shanked out of bounds by Salem’s libero from a hit from Marlington’s M. Fellers, ending the last set with an eight-point lead. Last year, The Lady Dukes tied against Salem for conference. Leading up to this year, they knew that to get the title they must win or face being tied once again. Marlington now has a record of 19-1 overall and 10-0 in conference. As for Salem, their record is 12-5 overall and 8-2 in conference.
With both teams having a few games left, this win secures Marlington's title.
