On the week of September 23rd-September 27th, Marlington local schools participated in Start With Hello Week. Start With Hello Week was founded by the Sandy Hook Promise, which is a program that started after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary on December 14, 2012. This program runs Start With Hello Week and the sole purpose of this program is all about lifting others up and making sure no one feels lonely.
During this week, Marlington students participated in various activities throughout the week, including having a conversation card at lunch tables so you and your friends can get to know more about each other, if someone is sitting alone a student will sit beside them because no one is left behind, during lunch, students took a selfie at the selfie station and used #StartWithHello to promote what start with hello week is about, students wore green clothes on “Wear Green Day” to help bring awareness of social isolation, loneliness, and start with hello week. This week really helped benefit students who are feeling lonely or isolated and included everyone in activities and made people feel not so lonely or isolated.
Although Start With Hello Week only lasts for one week, Marlington as a community can still can continue to regularly practice all of these activities and all of the good deeds that students participated in during this week.
