On this November 3rd, the Marching Dukes of Marlington attended at the OMEA State Marching Band Finals in Brunswick, Ohio. The Dukes have not made it to state since 2010, thus the end to this long wait was greatly accepted.
The Dukes performed in early afternoon, on a sunny yet windy day, unlike many of their previous performances which happened later in the evenings with heavy rains and winds. Already confident that they had achieved their goal of qualifying for state, the band was more relaxed with the idea of performing.
Soloists featured in their show “Nevermore” were Kassandra Kurtz (Trumpet), Isabella Delmoro (Flute), Alison Sanor (Clarinet), Alivia Collins (Alto Saxophone) and Luis Montelongo (Baritone Saxophone).
With a much more difficult rating scale, the Marching Dukes earned an Excellent rating overall, a great achievement that reflected scores of Marlington over the past several decades. The Dukes went home proud of their accomplishment, and later performed their show for a small crowd of family, friends and everyone that has assisted but have been unable to see their performances in the past.
The Marching Dukes are directed by Bret Pendergast, Battery Percussion by Allen Marshall, Pit Percussion by Jarret Ochsendorf, Woodwinds by Sloan Stakleff, and Color Guard by Melinda Marshall, along with Field Commanders Marc Vichnar and Christina Dager.
