Marching Dukes at the Copley Marching Band Invitational

On October 13th, the Marching Dukes of Marlington attended the OMEA Copley Marching Band Invitational in Akron, Ohio. The competition featured twelve other bands, including some from out of state. In frigid temperatures dipping into the upper 30’s, the band was cold yet determined to do their best and make great improvements from their previous performance at Lexington. Soloists featured in their show “Nevermore” were Kassandra Kurtz (Trumpet), Isabella Delmoro (Flute), Alison Sanor (Clarinet), Alivia Collins (Alto Saxophone) and Luis Montelongo (Baritone Saxophone).



For the final scores, Marlington placed 4th in Class A, 10th overall, receiving an Excellent rating.


High schools qualifying for state were Buckeye, St. Edward, Lexington, Willoughby South, Northrop, Mentor, Brunswick, North Royalton and Copley, with North Royalton taking all of the Class AA awards along with the title of Grand Champion.



The Marching Dukes are directed by Bret Pendergast, Battery Percussion by Allen Marshall, Pit Percussion by Jarret Ochsendorf, Woodwinds by Sloan Stakleff, and Color Guard by Melinda Marshall, along with Field Commanders Marc Vichnar and Christina Dager.

The Grand Duke is run by the Honors Newspaper and Journalism class at Marlington High School, and administered by Kaytlin McCoy.
