It Only Takes a Second to Lose

On Saturday, November 29, 2019, the Marlington Boys’ Basketball team traveled to take on Canfield and lost 63-62 in the final seconds of the fourth quarter.


Marlington’s senior guard, Andrew Pucci, led the way with 15 points for the night while sophomore guard, Connor Evanich followed close behind with 13 points.


As the game commenced, Marlington took control with quick passes and working together to find the open shot.


The starting point guard, Ryan Cooley, led the gave in assists, hitting the posts with quick inside passes, giving them the advantage to score against the defenders.


By half time, Marlington was winning by 18 with a score of 41-23.


The second half heated up when Canfield received a technical and Pucci lined up to take advantage of the extra points. He hit two out of four shots, giving an even greater lead for the Dukes.


The boys were up by ten at the end of the third quarter.


Canfield made a comeback in the fourth quarter, as they started to add pressure to the Dukes’ offense.


Marlington lost possession of the ball and with each turnover, Canfield scored. Marlington struggled to hold onto the lead.


As the intensity rose between the two teams, no fouls were called as Canfield dominated over the Dukes.


With 4.5 seconds left on the clock, Marlington needed to hold onto the ball to win. Canfield rushed Marlington and caused a turnover in which they scored off of ending the game 63-62.
