Carrollton crushed by Marlington on Senior Night

On Wednesday, the Marlington girls soccer team hosted Carrollton for senior night, with the girls finishing the game 7-1.

Seniors Sierra Thompson, Reilly Lutz, Mikayla Robinson, Laney Hess, and Natalie DiRuzza, were introduced before the game with their parents to recognize their achievements and the effort they have put into soccer throughout high school.

Once the game commenced, Marlington quickly took control of the ball, pushing Carrollton’s defense to their limits.

Junior Olivia Ryan took a quick shot from outside the box, starting the rapid scoring for Marlington.

DiRuzza, Ryan, Lutz, Sophia Redd, and Cali Swisher followed Ryan’s first score, dominating Carrollton before the second half.

As the second half started, Marlington coaches subbed in their junior varsity players. The girls took advantage of the chance they were given and shot many times but were blocked by Carrollton’s goalie.

Marlington’s goalie, Emma Jackson, stopped seven shots from Carrollton for the night while the defensive line stopped seven advances.

The girls left their senior night game with their heads held high and a smile on their face, looking ahead to their game on October 9th.

The Grand Duke is run by the Honors Newspaper and Journalism class at Marlington High School, and administered by Kaytlin McCoy.
